I am a quilting and art teacher and hold regular classes in Lawford Essex and workshops around East Anglia.
About twelve years ago I started quilting with Lynne Edwards and have been with her ever since! Art and craft has always been my passion and during the eighties, I became a mature student and studied for A level in fine art and subsequently City & Guilds in Teaching of Adults. Both have proved invaluable in recent years of running my own quilting classes.
I am now at an age when retirement is expected - but not for me! My regular quilting classes are far too enjoyable to give up. There is nothing more rewarding than to help quilters develop from complete nervous beginners into accomplished quilters. The initial classes have turned into ongoing mixed ability groups and everyone is so friendly and looks forward to meeting every fortnight.
I try to give a demo of something different at each class and also introduce a new project a couple of times a year so that hopefully inspiration is never far away!
Designing is a favourite with me and I find pattern making very exciting. People ask me from time to time whether there are any new patterns coming out. I'm not very prolific on this front but there are a few in the pipeline so watch this space!
Here is my most recent project "Bookshelf Favourites"© 2011.
It was my class project for the latter part of last year and I'm working on a pattern now which will be available soon.
I designed this wall hanging with personisation in mind. The books are embroidered with hobbies and interests of the person who is to receive it. Ornaments and tools too like the scissors and brushes. Lots of techniques to try including using the fancy stitches and text on the machine, applique, piecing, fabric painting and photo copy transfer onto fabric and Vilene.
Mine isn't quite finished as you can see, which I'm quite ashamed about because two of my students have already finished theirs and given them away as Christmas presents! I'm hoping to be able to publish them here soon.
